The other day I was reading an article about an uprising happening with 7-Eleven franchisees.
The company has been changing the arrangements over the years, and franchisees feel like they’re being given the shaft. These changes include:
– forcing franchisees to sell more 7-Eleven branded items, even though they don’t sell as well as brand name competitors.
– a new revenue-sharing arrangement, which tilts money away from the franchisees and into the franchisor’s pockets (or franchisees will have to pay $50,000 to keep the old revenue-sharing numbers in place).
– forcing all stores to stay open on Christmas Day.
I don’t know much about 7-Elevens’ franchising system, but it sounds like a lot of headache to make a living.
If someone wants to do it, all the power to them – but I think that life’s too short to deal with that kind of BS in your business.
For me, I’ll stick with my online coaching business. It lets me work from home (in my slippers and PJs if I want), I only work with clients that I want to work with, and I’m not under anyone’s thumb.
