HELPING COACHES GET MORE CLIENTS SINCE 2014!

Overly-emotional entrepreneurs

Being a loyal Canadian, here’s my obligatory one hockey email per year that we Canucks are forced to send to unsuspecting people around the world.

(Don’t worry, there’s a lesson in here for non-hockey fans too)

For those who don’t follow the sport, Mario Lemieux is regarded as one of the best players of all time. If he didn’t have so many injuries before he retired, a lot of people think that he would have done more than Wayne Gretzky did …

That’s saying a lot.

The NHL retired Gretzky’s #99 across the league, but it hasn’t done the same with Lemieux’s. There’s been a controversy of sorts this season, since another player (Josh Ho-Sang) is wearing Lemieux’s jersey #66, and the kid is getting harassed by a lot of fans and commentators about it.

Here’s a multiple choice question:

When he was asked what he thought about his number being worn by someone else, did Lemieux:

A) Cry
B) Tweet his disapproval
C) Unfriend Josh Ho-Sang on Facebook?
D) Demand that the league step in and right this horrible injustice?
E) None of the above

If you answered “E”, you win a prize!

About the whole “NumberGate” thing (not sure if that’s the name, but pretty much all scandals end with “gate” nowadays), Lemieux was cool about it:

“I’m fine with it … players can wear whatever number they want”

Lemieux is a professional. He doesn’t get rattled by silly things. He took care of business on the ice, and he’s doing pretty well for himself after retirement too.

I see a lot of entrepreneurs who could learn from him …

They take any perceived slight and turn it into a big deal.

Facebook un-friendings, running the person down to others, stewing about them, and throwing darts at their picture while cursing their name.

I’ve actually had entrepreneurs “unfriend” me on Facebook just because I said “no” to their request to be on my podcast, or deleted their spammy post in the Facebook group.

If you get that worked up about silly things like that, then good luck in business.

Every entrepreneur has to deal with ups and downs, and there’s going to be a lot rougher things than not being on my show, or having a post deleted.
