Let’s talk about ROI

Last week I disagreed with someone on Facebook who posted the following (about podcasting):

“You don’t do it for the ROI. You do it because you have to do it regardless”

I strongly disagree. My response:

“If you aren’t getting an ROI on podcasting, do something that will give you one. Don’t waste your time doing something that isn’t going to monetize (yes, I realize there are hobbyists who have shows because they love video games, or vintage cars, or wine … but for online entrepreneurs, time is $$$).

I’ve heard the whole “do what you’re passionate about” argument, and a lot of times if you do that the money will follow.

But there are situations where whatever you’re doing just isn’t going to work, and it doesn’t matter how much you love it.

This doesn’t apply just to podcasting. If you aren’t monetizing your Facebook group, your Instagram or whatever, then don’t waste valuable time and energy on it.

I’ll try anything to test it out. I once had a Pinterest account but I quickly realized that it wasn’t my thing (yeah, there were cool Star Wars cupcakes and Chewbacca cookies on there, but the whole platform just didn’t grab me). So I stopped using it to focus on other things …

You only have so much time and energy, make sure you’re focusing on those that are giving you an ROI.
