HELPING COACHES GET MORE CLIENTS SINCE 2014!

Coaches celebrating too soon

by | Jan 6, 2018 | Blog

I watched a video on YouTube recently that was all about people who celebrated too soon.

Most of those falling victim to this were in the sporting world:

Baseball players who celebrated a win even though they had just two outs and not three.

Football players who did a fancy flip into the end zone, but were ten yards short of it.

Soccer goaltenders who celebrated blocking a shot, only to have the ball roll into the net while they were hotdogging.

Cyclists who raised their arms in victory, only to have the person behind them do a last second push and beat them at the finish line.

That’s embarrassing …

By the way, coaches aren’t immune to this problem of celebrating too early.

But with coaches, they’re celebrating getting a “client” before that person has actually paid them anything.

A client isn’t a client until they pay you.

Last year, I had a session with a coach I was helping, and he proudly told me about a new “client” that he got.

Without missing a beat, I asked him “So how did he pay you? With PayPal, or some other way?”

Sheepishly, the coach admitted that he hadn’t received payment yet but it would be “coming any day”.

I told him that he didn’t have a client. He had a prospect, but until the money was in the bank that’s all that it was.

I wasn’t being pessimistic, but realistic. I’ve seen too many cases of people verbally hiring a coach only to jerk them around for weeks (or even worse, months).

By the way, I’m not immune to this. Last fall I was played by a prospect who verbally committed to hiring me and committed to the first appointment time, but didn’t send the initial payment over.

I told him that I never start coaching without getting payment, and he fed me a bunch of excuses – stringing me along for weeks until I finally gave up and cut him out of my life.

(Cut out of my life = dropping him from all of my social media and erasing him from my radar … I instantly felt better).

I was able to move on from that time-waster because I have plenty of other prospects who want to become clients.

If you’d like to have a steady supply of prospects and clients too, my Your First 5 Clients online program can help.

It’ll get you enough leads that you aren’t jerked around by non-serious people, or celebrating too soon with them.

And the good news is the program is just 50% what it normally costs until tomorrow at midnight EST.
