HELPING COACHES GET MORE CLIENTS SINCE 2014!

If Ant-Man were a coach, this is what he’d do

by | Feb 16, 2017 | Blog

I took the little guy to see The Lego Batman Movie last night (great movie).

I won’t ruin the film, but Batman has to learn to open up and start working with others as a team to save Gotham City, instead of trying to go-it-alone as usual.

That’s an important lesson for anyone in business, but as I got thinking about it my mind went to another superhero film that we can learn something from:

Ant-Man.

If you don’t know who Ant-Man is, he can shrink to a microscopic size while having super strength, which means he’s pretty tough to beat.

He can crawl in your ears and punch around in there.

And he can ride ants around – which is kinda silly and cool at the same time.

If Ant-Man were a coach, I’m pretty sure that he’d be in a micro-niche.

A micro-niche is taking the concept of niching down a few more notches.

For example, Ryan Lee once talked about an “athletic coach” being too broad, and the need to narrow it down. So instead of working with any athletes, it’d look something like this:

Athletic coach -> Coach for baseball players -> coach for pitchers -> velocity coach for pitchers (help them with the speed of their fastball).

Nowadays, I’m seeing a lot of coaches define themselves in very broad terms (ie: “life coach”) which they think will allow them to work with pretty much any human on the planet.

But since it’s so general, many of them struggle. Yes, they have the potential to work with a lot of people, but in reality they work with very few.

They’d be better off narrowing down to something where they’re one of the few coaches in that world.

Since you don’t need a ton of clients to have a successful coaching business, you can make this work.

Instead of being in a speck of sand on the beach (with tens of thousands of other coaches), you’re one of the top guys or gals in your space.

Think it’s not possible?

A former guest on my podcast, Kevin Jans, is a coach who helps people win government contracts. Pretty niched-down, right? But Kevin’s doing great (you can check out his podcast here)

Another former guest on my show, Susan Berland, is a coach who helps parents of LGBTQ kids deal with the issues that can bring up. Before we connected, I’d never heard of anyone else doing that, but it works for her.

If micro-niching is something you’re considering, you’ll be interested in what I’m doing today …

I’m doing a live training with Facebook ads expert Maggie Mae called “Pixel-Perfect Customers”, where we’ll be showing how you can use Facebook to gather a ton of information about your market and really narrow down who you can help.

It’s kind of like being Ant-Man, but without his cool suit. Register here:
